WORDS OF WELCOM

Dear participants,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I have the pleasure to welcome you to the 7th Pan African Diabetes Study Group Congress in Casablanca.

We are very honored that this meeting is held Under the High Patronage of His Majesty MOHAMMED VI The King of Morocco who is always working for reinforcing cooperation between Morocco and other African countries, giving great importance to closer collaboration in the medical fields.

The PADSG scientific meeting brings together hundreds of people interested in research and cares of diabetes mellitus. Basic scientists, primary, secondary and tertiary care health professionals, and members of the pharmaceutical industry, gather around the comprehensive scientific program put together by the PADSG.

This regional and international meeting promises to give everyone involved in diabetes research, therapy and care a great opportunity to report on new developments in the field, exchange views and experiences, and discuss and debate the latest scientific issues.

Casablanca which is situated in the north west of Africa, is especially suited to host the first  PADSG meeting of the third millennium. The weather in May is delightful and offers an excellent time to get to know this beautiful city and its magnificent surroundings.

Again, you are welcome to Casablanca and to the 7th PADSG Congress and we wish you a happy stay with us.

Jamal BELKHADIR, MD PhD

Chairman, Organizing Committee

WORDS OF WELCOME

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 7th Congress of the Pan African Diabetes Study Group.  We are privileged to have this meeting under the grand Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, King of Morocco who has kindly given his blessing to this meeting. I am also pleased that we are having this meeting in the ancient and picturesque city of Casablanca and that you have all taken the time to come to this Congress.

Diabetes, not too long ago, was said to be almost absent in Africa particularly rural Africa but we all know that it is beginning to take epidemic dimensions.  The formation of this Study group about 10 years ago could not have been more apt.  Since its inception the Study Group has been meeting in several cities in various parts of the African continent.  It has been slowly matured over the years. Some of its landmark achievements have been the production of a Consensus Document on Type 2 Diabetes and the current preparation of a Consensus Document on Type 1 Diabetes.

The Local organising Committee has laid on a wonderful programme which I am sure we will all enjoy. Please take advantage of this.  I also invite you to see the beautiful city of Casablanca in particular and the great country of Morocco in general.

I wish you a very enjoyable and successful attendance at this Congress.
